Smart Lens Treatment (Intraocular Lens)

Smart Lens Applications in Visual Impairments

The lens, which is naturally present in our eyes, allows us to focus on different distances thanks to its flexible structure. However, as age progresses, the flexibility of the lens decreases and the ability to focus on close distances weakens. In this case, smart lens applications come into play.

What is a Smart Lens and Who is it Suitable for?

A smart lens is an artificial lens that replaces an aging natural lens. These lenses have the ability to focus at both near and far distances, thus reducing or eliminating the need for patients to wear glasses. This treatment is usually performed on people over the age of 45 who have problems with distance or near vision. In addition, people who have undergone cataract surgery and want to see clearly without glasses may also prefer this method.

Smart Lens Types and Application Areas

  1. Trifocal Lenses: Trifocal lenses are lenses that can focus at both near and far distances. However, some patients may experience side effects such as reduced contrast sensitivity or haloed vision. These effects usually subside after a period of adaptation and the brain adjusts to the new situation.
  2. EDOF Lenses: EDOF lenses provide uninterrupted vision between far and intermediate distances. They have less near vision potential than trifocal lenses, but may be preferable for younger patients with an active lifestyle.

Deciding Which Lens is Right for You

A detailed examination and examination of the eye structure is necessary to decide which lens to apply. This decision is made by the doctor to determine what best suits the patient’s needs and lifestyle.
